Severe Asthma Podcast – Profs. Peter Gibson & Vanessa McDonald

August 4, 2017Severe AsthmaNews

Peter GibsonCentre of Excellence investigators Peter Gibson and Vanessa McDonald recently recorded a severe asthma podcast, with Mic Cavazzini from Pomegranate Health.

Listen to the podcast here: Episode 27 – Severe Asthma

The podcast was based on a recent “Clinical Perspectives” review published in June’s edition the Internal Medicine Journal entitled “Management of Severe Asthma: Targeting the Airways, Comorbidities and Risk Factors”

VanessaMcDonald_200x200This podcast provides up-to-date insights into a number of areas relevant to severe asthma management, including disease endotypes, treatment approaches, trigger factors and comorbidity.

Asthma is a heterogeneous disease that results from activation of differing disease pathways (termed endotypes). Differing endotypes have effects on disease outcomes and response to treatment. An update on the use of targeted monoclonal antibodies and macrolide antibiotics as treatment strategies is discussed. Further, the importance of assessing disease triggers and strategies to minimise exposure to triggers is covered. Finally, the importance of comorbid disease is discussed, which are particularly important in the population with severe asthma.

Pomegranate Health is a podcast for physicians developed by the RACP.
